Taking Away the Background

Background removal is basically the idea that you remove the background of a photograph wherein the object/objects are positioned. The nice thing about using your editing program is that while removing the background you can choose to do the entire background or merely parts of it to achieve your desired result.

Previously, before the arrival of digital photography and the current accompanying technology, background removal was performed in a more laborious process.

It was performed in a darkroom with the necessary ambient conditions including proper room temperature. The film was submerged in working solution and was monitored constantly. Overexposure of the film to the solution could result in an increase in background blur and decrease in resolution.

Today the removal of the background is accomplished with any digital photo editing software like GNU Image Manipulation Program, or GIMP. GIMP is a special type of graphics editing software that is able to support some types of object-oriented (or vector) graphics.

It is not necessary that the digital photo editing software used for background removal be able to support all types of object-oriented graphics.The advantage in using GIMP of course, is that it enables easy vector to raster conversion.

If you already use a program that supports raster graphics or use any another digital photo editor, it will also work just fine. Something to note is that you will probably see that your editors has a variety of "plug-ins which can be used to alter or remove the background in different ways. Software plug-ins are computer programs with specific goals. You typically will find that sophisticated photo editing programs use special purpose plug-ins and have the ability to perform background editing and removal based on different criteria.

Objects without backgrounds can be used in several different ways. They can be placed in a new backdrop and in different situational contexts. For eg.: a couch in furniture showroom could have the furniture showroom replaced with an office. The object can be moved around any which way and it's alignment w.r.t the new background can also be changed.

The great thing about an object without a background is that it maintains all its properties like shape and size, but becomes more flexible to individual usage.

Halloween Fortune Telling - In this game, your guests put their knowledge of one another to the test and get to know each other better.

Merely hand out slips of paper and a pencil to each guest. Each person then selects a person at the party (maybe even himself or herself), but doesn't tell anyone who it is. Then, everyone write a "fortune" for that person, folds it, and puts it into the fishbowl. You can let everyone write one or many; that's up to you.

Then, each guest pulls out a slip of paper and reads the fortune. He then attempts to guess which person wrote the fortune and which person the fortune is about.

Some examples of fortunes might be:

"This person will get caught doing something illegal and pass the night in jail."
"This person will marry someone from a foreign land."
"This person will cease his job and steal a Corvette when he turns fifty."
"This person will adopt a child."
"This person will become Chairperson of the PTA."

You get the idea. Each person who accurately guesses wins a small prize, and this game is a delightful way to get conversations initiated at your Halloween bash.

A really cool variance of this game is to have each guest put their name on a piece of paper and drop into the bowl. Then have each guest draw a name from the bowl and have the one who drew the name make up a chilling story about the name drawn. Then have the other invitee guess who the scary story is about.

As you can picture adult games can be a lot of fun and the types of games can be endless. It just takes a little preparation to come up with adult Halloween games.

Tips for Guitar Learning

A guitar is a popular musical instrument which produces sound by vibration of its strings. All guitars fall into one of the two broad categories: acoustic and electric. In an acoustic guitar sound produced by the string is modulated by its hollow body, it does not require any external device for it to be heard; an electric guitar requires amplifiers to electronically manipulate its tone.

The soundboard together with the sound box (a resonant cavity) of the acoustic guitar amplifies sound produced by the strings. The vibrations of the strings pass on to the soundboard through the bridge mounted on it; the large area of the soundboard displaces a large volume of air producing a louder sound.

The quality of the sound produced by the guitar depends on many factors related to the construction of the guitar; suffice it to say that each guitar produces a distinctive sound due to the harmonic composition. If you are serious about buying an acoustic guitar and learning acoustic guitar, it is necessary that you get familiar with various parts of the guitar.

Going from top to bottom of the guitar the major parts are: Headstock, Neck, Body and Bridge. At the top of the guitar is the "headstock" attached to the slimmer part, the "neck". On the headstock are the "tuners" by which you adjust the pitch - the tension - in the "strings". Where the headstock meets the neck is the "nut"; the nut is a piece of material (plastic, bone, etc.) which has grooves through which the strings pass.

In an acoustic guitar the body comprises of the soundboard and the resonant cavity, the soundbox. The soundboard has a "sound hole" through which the sound is projected out. Neck is the slim portion joining the headstock with the body. The guitar strings run from the tuners, over the nut, over the body and the sound hole, and are anchored on the "bridge" which is attached to the guitar body; vibrations of the strings are passed to the soundboard through the bridge.

There are a number of metal pieces on the neck of the guitar, running across the neck; they are called the "frets". The term fret is used to refer to the space between the two pieces of metal also. The "first fret" is the space between the nut and the first metal piece, the second is the space between the first and the second piece of metal, and so on.

Being familiar with the construction of the guitar now you can proceed to buy an acoustic guitar and start learning acoustic guitar. How hard can flipping houses?

Well, I'm no dummy. I know there is a lot you don't see on those shows. You don't see how long a project actually takes in terms of work hours. There are whole teams of people coming in on the shows, in some cases round the clock. Plus they are professionals who know every little trick to save time and money.

I also know that these shows don't show you everything that happens during the project. Sure, you see them taking the first swing of the hammer and the strain of moving out the heavy furniture. But they don't show you how they accidentally broke the china cabinet. Or how the "burnt sienna" paint looked closer to "hunter orange" on the wall.

They also don't tell you that the person doing the flipping has been doing this for 20 years or more and knows how to do every task in the project. Or that he has friends who can do the parts he is less familiar with. Or that the show's staff has all the connections needed to make the project sail swimmingly along.

The Disney Movie Club and the Power of Magic

Walt Disney World features some of the most famous landmarks in the world. Cinderella's Castle and the EPCOT ball are perhaps the most famous. In addition to the amazing landmarks, they also offer some of the best lodging in the world. Walt Disney's dream has materialized into one of the most sought after vacation destinations for families in the world. Millions of people travel to Orlando every year just to get a glimpse of that Disney magic.

The Disney Contemporary Resort was one of the first two hotels opened on the property when it was first opened to the public in 1971. Walt Disney masterfully bought all of the surrounding land in a bid to secure an uncluttered atmosphere to build his dream kingdom. Today, the hotel is considered a leading destination for families. It is made up of four different free-standing buildings intersected by the renowned monorail train.

While the express train just goes right through the building without stopping, there is a train that is designated to stop at the Resort as well. The building is basically an "A-Frame" type of design. It was assembled in collaboration with The United States Steel Corporation and the architect Welton Becket. The building was made by putting up big "A-Frame" support beams and then attaching rooms to the outside. The 500 rooms were already pre-made and were lifted up by cranes. This was a pretty strange way to build a building at the time.

The Contemporary Tower is the main hub for all of the resort activities. The Tower is where you register upon check-in. It also has two different restaurants and the main hall. This is also the location of the monorail train station. One of the most prominent features of the property is a huge mosaic that was designed by Mary Blair. You can see the mosaic from some of the guest rooms as well as the monorail. It is an elaborate piece of art that really gives the resort that something extra.

The Disney Contemporary Resort is a great piece of the Disney puzzle. It has entertained generations of families. Editing Digital photography the easy way

The resolution of your computer's monitor can greatly affect the outcome of your photos. This is the amount of pixels there are on the screen. The more there are, generally, the better the quality of the images. Making sure you have a monitor that is suited for photo editing is an important part of the process. However, you must remember that certain resolutions are meant for certain sized monitors. A large resolution on a small monitor makes everything too small, whereas the opposite makes everything too big. Make sure you know what resolution your monitor is made for. The display resolution of a digital television or computer display typically refers to the number of distinct pixels in each dimension that can be displayed. Some commentators also use this term to indicate a range of input formats that the display's input electronics will accept and often include formats greater than the screen's native grid size even though they have to be down-scaled to match the screen's parameters. An example of pixel shape affecting "resolution" or perceived sharpness is displaying more information in a smaller area using a higher resolution, which makes the image much clearer.

When you upload your pictures from your digital camera to your computer, most of them will probably be a little blurry. Probably it won't be enough to make you want to change it, but if it's not, there's always the UnSharp Mask that you can use to sharpen the image. Most cameras don't apply any kind of sharpening filter to pictures they take, and so they won't always look as crisp as you might want. Most likely if you have a basic editing program you will be able to sharpen your pictures successfully, and you can sharpen them as much or as little as you want. What's the "right" size for a picture? Well, that depends on the photo. Most monitors display at 72 dpi (dots per inch). So, if you want the picture to be 5 inches wide (probably about the biggest you would want for an e-mail message), the picture would be 360 pixels wide (5 inches x 72 dpi = 360 pixels). Pixel is short for "Picture Element" and is the smallest unit of visual information used to build an image. If you have ever zoomed in on an image, Pixels are those little squares that you see. The more pixels in an image, the better the resolution.

When you want to auction off your last minute items, or you have set up an online auction shop, the most common place to do it is on eBay. Bidding online is one of the most commonly used forms of buying anything online. Pictures are often used to say a lot about a product, you want to make sure to get a picture. Here are few tricks of the trade: Take photos of different parts of your product and try different angles. Photographing your product from many angles helps add depth and avoid a flat online appearance. Pick one main overall shot of the item, but also use other detailed photos or different perspective shots. The more buyers can see, the more likely they will buy your product rather than your competitors. Once you've saved all your photos to your computer, you can optimize your pictures for online viewing. Make sure your images are saved as JPEG files and increase the compression so that your pages will download more quickly on a user's computer. Also crop your photos so that it is composed only of your product, eliminating white space and making your product look better. Edit your photo. Adjust the light and contrast to improve on your original photo. Make your subject stand out by adjusting the contrast between the foreground and background colours. You can also make certain parts of your picture lighter or darker to improve the overall look. Once you've practiced photographing your products using these tips, visitors will have a better shopping experience and will be more likely to bid on your items.

Take the Saturation slider and slide it to the left until the skin color looks pretty good, or the best that you can get it without looking fake. Don't worry about the other parts of the picture right now. Just concentrate on the skin color. We will fix the background colors next. Once you are satisfied with your skin color, click OK to close out of the Hue/Saturation window, and you will see your new layer above your original picture. If you notice though, the adjustment that you made affected the entire image. To get that back restored to normal, click on the layer mask part of the new layer, and grab your brush tool. Make sure that your foreground color is set to black, and you have a large enough brush so that you are not brushing the background back a long time. Now, using black, brush in the parts of the photo that you want to restore back to normal. I usually brush in the whole picture except the skin areas that I wanted to fix. This gives me the most realistic look. You are now done with the Photoshop tutorial on how to fix skin color in a picture.

Why bother with old equipment that does not have full functionality? The optical performance of older professional quality lenses is still very good, and this is not always reflected in their price on the second-hand market. Maybe you have a favorite lens that has that special quality and you want to keep using it. The sensors of most DSLRs are smaller than the size of 35mm film, so digital cameras use only part of the view through the lens. This can help older lenses in their performance as lens faults are more prevalent at the edge of their view area. Using more of the center section avoids these problem areas, so the old lens may perform better on the digital than they ever did before. Recognizing the value of the screw-mount lenses even in the digital age, there are still new and second-hand adaptors available to mount these lenses on a variety of digital SLR cameras. While the lens may mount on the camera, the adaptors generally do not provide any mechanical or electrical connection between the lens and the digital camera body.

Sharpening is one of the most impressive transformations you can apply to an image since it seems to bring out image detail that was not there before. What it actually does, however, is to emphasize edges in the image and make them easier for the eye to pick out - while the visual effect is to make the image seem sharper, no new details are actually created. The first step in sharpening an image is to blur it slightly. Next, the original image and the blurred version are compared one pixel at a time. If a pixel is brighter than the blurred version it is lightened further; if a pixel is darker than the blurred version, it is darkened. The result is to increase the contrast between each pixel and its neighbors. The nature of the sharpening is influenced by the blurring radius used and the extent to which the differences between each pixel and its neighbor are exaggerated.
