Disney Classics Continue to Appeal to Children

By Steve Collins

Do you remember the first Disney movie you ever saw as a kid? How many Disney movies have you been seen since then? How many Disney DVDs are on the shelf in your living room? If you have children, the answer to the final question could easily be "dozens." Disney has been in the entertainment business for more than eight decades! There are hundreds of movies in the Disney vault after all that time.

One of the most amazing things about Disney movies is the sort of everlasting appeal they hold for the children of numerous generations. While the Disney movies made for today's kids are timely and most often have much for the whole family, there seems to be a timelessness to the first Disney flicks which continue to entertain generation after generation.

How many other movies continue to appeal to youngsters decade after decade in the same manner Disney classics do? Little girls of today embrace the Disney heroines of all eras, for instance. They do not distinguish between the title character of Cinderella, released in 1950, or Aurora from the 1959 classic Sleeping Beauty and Princess Jasmine, made 1992. A Disney princess is a Disney princess!

Sit on your front porch on Halloween and you will see just as many Snow Whites as you will see Belles from Beauty and the Beast. You will still see little boys dressed as Peter Pan or the much more recent Buzz Lightyear. While some movies do not age well, the beloved Disney classics are not among that number!

It is hard to find a complete list of Disney movies, but there are hundreds of titles available through their movie club. Working much like a mail-order book club, members are offered the chance to buy a specific selection roughly once a month. Elite members-only choices appear in the catalogue. If you are a diehard Disney fan (or have some miniature fans in your home) then the Disney Movie Club is a super way to grow your DVD collection.
