The founder and original owner of Jackson Guitars was Grover Jackson, a partner of Wayne Charvel. The Rhoads V is the most famous guitar that the Jackson Company produced and this model was designed by heavy metal guitarist Randy Rhoads, who played with the likes of Quiet Riot and Ozzy Osbourne.
When Grover released the new guitar he decided to brand it with his own name because he thought that its design would be too revolutionary to Charvel's more traditional market. The success of the Rhoads model drove Grover to create his own company, the Jackson Guitar Company.
Harder rock and metal music artists loved the Jackson Guitar's out of this world look and innovative design. They were well known for their slim and stylish models.
Jackson Guitars are well know for their famous spiky dropped headstocks - an innovative look designed by Randy Rhoads. Some of the guitars have the headstocks upturned, just to be a little different. Jackson electric guitars are also known for their shark fin-like fret inlays.
In the Fall of 2002, Fender Musical Instrument Corporation acquired Jackson/Charvel. Consequently, operations were transferred to the Fender factory in Corona, CA. Fender is now developing and producing guitars that are approximately like the original San Dimas Charvels, except for a few touches.
Both Jackson and Charvel models are manufactured in Corona. As a result, many of the artists who were on the company's roster list in the 1980s and 1990s abandoned them to endorse other guitar manufacturers.
Some of the original endorsers who are still with the Jackson label - some being so for over 10 years - include: Carlos Cavazo, Chris Caffery, Metal Mike, Rob Cavestany, Mark Morton and Phil Collen. These artists having been playing - and abusing - Jackson guitars for more than a decade.
