Music Jukebox-The Ultimate Nostalgia Gift

By Robert Allen Byrnes

I don't know about you but many times with me I get those overwhelming feelings of nostalgia just looking at something from tester year like a bubble gum machine or a music jukebox. I remember as a little tyke walking down to the corner drugstore, which at that time seemed like a three mile walk, to get my hands on a candy bar or to pt pennies in the various gum ball machines. Ah, those were the days.

Nostalgia gifts are very special gifts because they appeal to fond memories of the past, certain periods of time that form our life experiences and bring overwhelming feelings of acceptance and security among other things. How about that little league game, that cheer leading season, that first car you can remember and the long trips to Florida in the simmer. So many things can kick off that nostalgia mood because it is a walk down memory lane.

I'm sure if you stop to think about it, you've had times when you least expected it, like driving through a rural area, you see way back in the weeds, an abandoned dilapidated car - wheels missing, windshield shattered and just a glimpse of red paint. Without warning you're back to that country homestead on a Saturday afternoon with your brothers and your dad, enthusiastically shining up that 57 Chevy, getting it ready for church on Sunday. Wow, I'd almost forgotten, it's been so long ago.

Maybe you haven't been turned on to Nostalgia gifts yet, but supposing you opened a birthday or Christmas present and there was something you never expected to see again - a vintage music jukebox, straight out of yesterday! That's when you experience nostalgia to the max -and each time you walk past it, it's nostalgia all over again!

These special gifts can also be the answer to a very common dilemma, and you probably know what it is before I say it: the gift problem. In everyone's life there is that person who is the bane of your holidays: the one most difficult to shop for. I had a sister who was very special, but she was also very particular with what she used, wore, ate or anything else that pertains to keeping alive and pretty. What do you do about birthdays and Christmas? To ask her was to get the reply: Just surprise me!

Yes, I do believe that women, especially mothers, are more prone to explain just what they want, even where to get it. In the case with my father, it was hard because he wanted to be sure to get exactly what he wanted, no substitutes accepted. I suspect he needed to feel it, hold it and carefully inspect every inch of it because it was usually a tool of some kind that he wanted and it had to be just right. I just remember something besides a tool he would have loved-a music jukebox.

Well, let me tell you something that most all dads and husbands would be very happy to receive for any holiday, whether it be Christmas, birthday or Father's Day, and that is a Nostalgia gift; a gift that would escort his thoughts back down memory lane taking him back to this childhood or teen years or even early marriage life.

These are gifts of various purpose and design, but I believe most any family member would be delighted with the vintage music jukebox, electronic machines, the juke box and the neon sign or any others. A gift of any nature is special; but one that brings back happy memories is the most special of all.
